Various causes of male infertility

  • Oligoasthenoteratozoospermia- It is an umbrella term used for conditions like oligozoospermia (marked by low sperm count), asthenozoospermia (marked by poor sperm mobility), and teratozoospermia (marked by structural abnormality in the sperm). Oligoasthenoteratozoospermia is the most common cause of male subfertility.
  • Azoospermia- It is a medical condition marked by no sperms in the semen which may be a result of various factors including severe infection in the reproductive tract, prostatitis and epididymitis.
  • Erectile or ejaculatory dysfunction- The condition is marked by the inability of the male partner to ejaculate semen efficiently during sexual intercourse.

Fertility tests for the male partner

Semen analysis- A sample of semen collected from the male partner is thoroughly examined so as to detect any abnormality in the structure and motility of the sperms.
